ESCULTURAS PEGAJOSAS
El artista Maurizio Savini ha creado una serie de esculturas cubiertas de chicle. Se realizan con miles de piezas de goma mascar color rosa brillante, y se han vendido en miles de euros. Su obra incluye desde un búfalo de tamaño natural, un oso pardo y hasta figuras de empresarios realizando poses de gimnasia.
Savini, de 39 años, ha estado utilizando este inusual material dentro del arte, desde hace 10 años. El chicle, es conocido en su Italia natal como “Goma de América” luego de introducirse en el país después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
Sus esculturas pegajosas se han exhibido por todo el mundo, incluyendo Londres, Edimburgo, Roma y Berlín; donde ha captado a gran parte de sus compradores.
"La razón por la que me gusta usar la goma de mascar como material, es por su increíblemente versatilidad en comparación con materiales tradicionales utilizados en las artes. (…) A pesar de su historia dentro de la cultura popular, la goma de mascar no tiene un estatuto propio dentro del arte institucional. Creo que al utilizar este material en mi trabajo artístico, trato de redimirlo, otorgándole una dignidad expresiva propia”; argumenta Savini.
El artista trabaja la goma de mascar calentándola con secadores de pelo para facilitar su manipulación. Con la ayuda de un cuchillo recorta las piezas que componen el conjunto de la obra. Además, Savini adhiere a la goma de mascar antibióticos para evitar la descomposición causada por el azúcar, permitiendo que sus obras se mantengan en buen estado con el paso del tiempo.
El crítico de arte Mario Codognato, se refiere al trabajo de Savini, como una encarnación de la esencia de la juventud. Escribió "La obra de Maurizio recuerda el acto sensual de la masticación, la calidez voluptuosa, la fragancia artificial y aséptica que se extiende desde la boca como una promesa y un beso perdido”.
STICKY SCULPTURES
The artist Maurizio Savini has created a series of sculptures covered gum. They are made with thousands of pieces of gum bright pink, and have been sold in thousands of euros. His work ranges from life-size buffalo, a grizzly bear and even figures of businessmen doing gymnastic poses.
Savini, 39, has been using this unusual material in art, 10 years ago. Gum is known in his native Italy as "Rubber of America", then to enter the country after World War II.
His sticky sculptures have been exhibited around the world, including London, Edinburgh, Rome and Berlin; where he has captured much of his buyers.
"The reason I like to use gum as material, is its incredibly versatile compared to traditional materials used in the arts. (...) Despite its history within popular culture, gum hasn’t its own status within the institutional art. I think that using this material in my artistic work, I try to redeem it, giving it its own expressive dignity"; argues Savini.
The artist works the gum with hairdryers for easy handling. With a knife he cuts the pieces that make up the whole work. In addition, Savini adheres to the gum antibiotics to prevent decomposition caused by sugar, allowing his works are kept in good condition over time.
The art critic Mario Codognato refers to the work of Savini, as an incarnation of the essence of youth. He wrote "The work of Maurizio recalls the sensual act of chewing, the voluptuous warmth aseptic, artificial fragrance and extending from the mouth as a promise and missed kiss".
